Sounds like a pretty sweet deal with your next door neighbor, Chris - sure would make things a whole lot simpler/less stressful than the typical sale scenario, in all kinds of ways. How old is he? How about the friend he'd be counting on to buy his place? Maybe you should consider taking the deal - countering a bit higher number, perhaps - while the taking's good. Far easier said than done, I know, but you might kick yourself around the block if your house were significantly damaged in the next one. Just saying it could turn out to be the smartest move you ever made, for your and your family's sake.
Citizens was supposedly intended to be the insurer of last resort. It's been far from that for many years. In any event, I guess we'll find out soon enough what they'll actually do - or not - in the scenario you envision. Stories should come out. |
