This season's excitement - tempered?

OK guys, I know we have this discussion almost every year - the one that asks just how happy people should be (or at least sound) about hurricanes threatening the U.S. coast. I do appreciate that this is, after all, a hurricane site, designed for people who love and/or are fascinated by the storms, as well as for for those of us who dread them and are simply seeking to obtain and/or contribute information. I also know full well that if I don't like anything that's expressed here, I'm perfectly free to leave.
All that said and understood, I simply want to remind those who are virtually salivating for storms that we now have a very serious situation in the Gulf of Mexico that could be even more devastating than we can imagine should a significant surge inundate Gulf coastal areas -- and that is, of course, the huge volume of oil in the water which grows more ominous every day.
I know I don't have the right to tell others how to think or feel. I'm only asking that we all please just be aware, OK? Those on the northern Gulf coast (and certainly many elsewhere) have already been rocked to our core by the immensity of this toxic situation, which threatens the destruction of critical habitat, innocent wildlife, human livelihoods, and entire lifestyles, and will, if hasn't already, negatively impact the economy of our entire region, if not the country at large -- and that's without the additional impetus of a fierce storm-driven surge.
Thanks for listening. __BL
