Canetrakker, I apologize that an apparent lack of clarity on my part led you to believe I was leaving the board. I only meant I was "done" on THIS topic; that I wouldn't bother y'all any more on THIS subject, at least until next year. OK? But I guess in order to respond to you I have to break that vow already.
Yes, it's true of course that hurricanes are natural disasters we can't avoid, and that many folks are drawn to watch them, fascinated. I just wish some individuals wouldn't sound so gosh-awful HAPPY to see them coming - can you understand that at all? I have to believe that people who have suffered through earthquakes, for instance, would feel exactly the same way I do should they see others waxing virtually orgasmic over another quake, or even at the barest indication that one might be imminent. It just seems so blanking....insensitive. I don't know any other way to put it. To me, it demonstrates a significant emotional disconnect from the awful reality of these disasters and what they mean to human lives -- and it makes me angry.
Look, what else can I say? I don't expect it will change anything on this board; I just wanted to offer it for consideration. No, I'm not leaving. I need the information found here, which supplements what I can glean from the NHC during the season. I will just have to learn to somehow ignore those who are so gleefully excited to see another storm brewing -- a storm that could potentially devastate others' lives and property. In fact, if you'll notice, the only time many participants here DO get excited is precisely that - when a storm threatens landfall, and the bigger the threatened population the better (nobody seems to care much about Mexico, for instance). On the other hand, if too many storms become fish, almost everyone gets bored. Just what does that say about how much these storms are truly loved for their own sake, I wonder?
As always, I do appreciate the opportunity to make my thoughts known, and thank Jim once more for the privilege. __BL |
