Re: Seems Like Earl was a 'Cane at Landfall, And One Death So far

If for no other reason than safety itself, yelling "hurricane" was a wise idea.

With a dangerous rocky coastline full of bays, and waves of incredible heights; Earl was not a storm to be taken lightly.

With pressure in the 960s, and intensification in progress, yelling "tropical storm" may have been too much an understatement for their weather service to bear.

Perhaps the top sustained winds were a bit under the threshold...so what? We've seen plenty of minimal hurricanes that wouldn't hold a candle to Earl's size and seas.

Many storms go into the record books as this or that; based on some small portion of the storm - because technically that's all it takes.

As a weather enthusiast I appreciate statistics, but there's more to reality than simple statistics. And thanks to the satellite age we can include photos to give context to the stats....
