It means something as far a statitical historical relevance to have one agency make the call. The recon fixes showed around 960mb South of Cape Cod as a tropical storm & landfall in Nova Scotia 978mb and that is strengthening as a hurricane?? Also consider wind measurements at 80 or 90ft above sea level can be 10 to 20mph stronger which is common in NS. Ask people in condos when a tropical storm hits & they get hurricane force gusts, so according to you guys we might as well classify a TS a hurricane or lower the SS scale. One of my observers in the northern part of N.S said the forecast was for hurricane conditions while Earl was weakening to T.S near Cape Cod. The CHC has been known to exxagerate threats in the past & they probably had to cya. |
