Jake the damage done by Katrina was far greater than that of Camille. I looked at the coast of Mississippi before & after Katrina and everything was completely eliminated, with Camille there were still many buildings left standing. I dont think Camille was a cat 5 at landfall as the shallow waters allow more cool water to be brought to the surface quicker & systems weaken fast as they approach the northern gulf coast from the south. Just about every significant system we have tracked by radar moving on shore there has weakened & drew in dry air in the south quad. At the time Camille was coming on shore we did not have the data to recognize this. The recon fixes were well off shore and Camille could have very well weakened just like Katrina at landfall. I give the nod to Katrina for devestation un imaginable to the eye.
