I don't think anyone disagrees that 1928 was deadly, tragic, devastating and monumentally bad.

The Weather Channel list dealt with noteworthiness, from what I recall of the show.

I'm not saying it doesn't belong on the list.  It very easily could be on that list.  I have considered your argument and accept that you might could entice me to rethink mine.

So, I think 1928 is doomed to suffer the same fate as many a storm.  The Labor Day hurricane, which to me is the keystone moment for a storm that can get out of hand real quick on an unsuspecting area, is losing its punch every year it gets older and those who lived it and during that time die off.
Up here in this part of the coast, you would think that Camille, Frederic, Elena, Georges, Dennis, Ivan, and Katrina would be enough to stay in people's minds.  NOT AT ALL.  People forget.  They remember it differently.  If it didn't impact them, it wasn't as bad as forecast.  The list goes on and on.

You hit the nail on the head with one thing.  Okeechobee then and Okeechobee now will suffer the same fate as say a Rita would.  Not a hugely populated area.  Not an area full of money and influence.  Not a sexy city or area, that garners big attention.  Not going to be remembered.  Even though it wiped parts of the planet off of the face of the earth and killed people.  Sad but true.
