Re: An increase in people dying at home

I think excess deaths are going to be even more significant in the fall, from the virus, from flu and people staying home rather than going to the hospital. The hospitals will be too overwhelmed.
We do have an order to wear masks here in my county in Florida, Hillsborough. It's mandatory, but I don't know how well they are enforcing it. My dad has yet to see anyone wearing eye protection like he is.
A vaccine trial might actually be worth it for some to participate in if there were open spots. I would think they would likely be swamped with volunteers. There's risks of course, but for younger and healthy people it might be worth it. Sometimes a vaccine trial can go wrong. If you end up getting what it was supposed to help protect you from, you may end up being worse off. That has happened before. That's why there are these clinical trials to see if it does what they hope it will.
Our governor in Florida is insane. If they ignore science and opened schools with numbers that are now at 70,000 new cases per day in the U.S. (according to NBC News tonight), they would constantly have to close. They would constantly have to have kids, teachers and other staff stay home because people would constantly test positive and they would have to quarantine at home for 14 days. That would just keep happening again and again and again. It might be class by class, but I don't see how you stop kids from one class from interacting with another. These are kids. I mean sure, some of the kids are smarter than the adults, but you'll have many not doing what they should be doing. It shouldn't be up to kids. The adults are supposed to be the smart ones and protect the kids as best we can. Europe can open some schools because the numbers are astronomically lower there and they have plans to test, contact trace and quarantine more effectively. Their biggest countries have less than 1,000 new cases per day and some a few hundred.
The numbers here and in Brazil just shouldn't be where they are.

We just share the same kind of person at the top who doesn't want to treat the virus seriously. |
