I was just reading this article on the crowds: https://deadline.com/2020/07/disney-world-reopening-mixed-reactions-welcome-videos-the-shining-the-shining-1202983541/ One journalist left before they ever went in.
A lot of the park had people spread out, but all it takes is one area to be a really big problem, but the entire thing is already a big problem.
I was talking to my dad a few days ago about Disney. Imagine a ride like the haunted mansion, which is indoors along a track where you are going through where someone just breathed a few seconds ago. It's just a terrible idea. You have to wear a mask for safety and being in the heat in Florida all day long when you don't actually have to be would probably be pretty uncomfortable. You would have to touch your mask to remove it to stay hydrated. And eat. And I can't imagine people with young kids trying to have them with a mask and trying to keep them away from people.
Inevitably, you will be too close to people at some point. A lot. I can't imagine taking a risk like that, end up getting it and then end up giving it to someone who gets very sick. Not worth the risk when we keep setting records here. I feel bad for all the employees. It's not a good situation that they are at risk, though also unfortunate if out of work. We could have been like some of the other countries had we had a stay at home order nationally for 2 to 3 months and people had followed the order. Then wore masks. Then the numbers would have been low enough that we could have tested, contact traced and quarantined. No good solutions now except doing it at this point before it gets much worse in the fall. But Florida might just be the very last state to do anything. The GOP will be going to Jacksonville for their convention. That's part of the reason why Florida's governor will be about the last to do anything. Convention, schools open, theme parks open and some beaches open I think, will all help to not make Florida a good place to be until at least spring. |
