I can't speak for other states or schools but I can tell you Maryland's public schools in the 1960s were excellent. (Far superior to what I see coming out of schools (and even colleges) today.)

Not only were we taught many scientific laws and theories, we were taught WHY THE SCIENCE WAS ACCEPTED. The second part (the scientific method of thinking) being just as important as the first part.

The Big Bang, the Expanding Universe, and Plate Tectonics were all "recently accepted" science then; and they've stood the test of time well. We also studied biology, physics, and of course evolution (without any mention of creationism nonsense.)

The only science we discussed that was only at the hypothetical stage was Global Warming; (we were taught it was a potential problem for the future world.)

That the "science" we see on Youtube is not taught in school is a good thing; it's not taught because it's not "accepted science."

To this day, half a century after leaving school, there's not one thing I was taught that was later proved wrong.

Youtube is awash in scientific hypotheses; some rational, most delusional, and none accepted. To teach any of them in school would be insane. All of them should come with a warning: "For Entertainment Only."
