Jim,
the only and very strange thing is that Irene's pressure at 950mb, is that of a 125-130 mph, high end Cat 3. her winds have not correlated with her pressure. Seems like either Gustav or Ike was similar.
If Irene can mix her winds down to the surface and continues to see a small drop in pressure, I think she still reaches 125-130.
But for the mid-Atlantics and New England areas, I think 75-90mph is the order of the day. Irene just won't going as fast as hurricanes have historically moved at these latitudes. |
