The line of reasoning is based upon the laws of physics:
That large of an area of spinning action cannot spin down as quickly as a storm of half its size.
The anti-cyclone overhead is also so massive and sprawling that impinging shear will be slowed as it enters the storm's vicinity.
I think continental dry air from near the Smokies being drawn in as Irene comes in closer might be a factor for weakening. If yesterday was ERC, then I doubt another of those will occur before about late Sunday or early Monday, if at all. |
