September 6th - 17th latest

We are now within 5 days of the modern era record and it looks as though it is nearly a given that the record will belong to 2013.  It is even more astonishing that the only years left on the list after September 11th, happened prior to the satellite era.  Some of those years on the top of the list MAY have had hurricanes that were missed because no mariners were there to witness it or it didn't encounter land.  In any case, this year is turning out to be very interesting.

And to think, when I started this tracking of this season earlier in August, 2013 was 64th on the list and it has now surpassed 1/4 of the seasons on record since then, is amazing.

A word of caution about the modern years still on the list:

1984 produced Hurricane Diana, a Cat 4 monster that ended up landfalling in NC as a Cat 2, causing moderate damage.

2001 produced Hurricanes Iris and Michelle.  Cat 4 monsters as well that made landfalls and caused major damage.  Iris hit Belize and Michelle hit Cuba.

2002 produced Isidore and Lili.  Isidore hit the Yucatan as a major hurricane and Lili was devastating in Louisiana.

1984 and 2002 used the same name list.  That's just an extra tidbit of trivia.

2013 - still going ................

1919 - September 7

2001, 1937, 1920, 1876, 1857 - September 9

1931 - September 10

1912 - September 12

1922 - September 15

1877 - September 16

1941 - September 21

1905 - October 3
