Re: Coronavirus - Thread #3

I feel like we are learning things we should have learned 6 months ago.

"Most coronavirus cases are spread by people without symptoms, CDC now says":
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/20/health/cdc-coronavirus-spread-asymptomatic-website-wellness/index.html
This seemed likely from near the start and I've always questioned whether they were wrong when they said asymptomatic spread wasn't the primary driver of new infections.

"Don't Travel For Thanksgiving, CDC Warns":

Obviously. It shouldn't be recommended that people should make their own determination based on risk. The official advice for every holiday should be that you don't get together and if someone wants to ignore that, then that is at their peril. They say if you do, quarantine as long as you can before you go and then get tested. Then get tested again when you get there. (as if testing is that easy given the number of tests we are needing now and will need soon) Quarantine some more perhaps. These are such unnecessary risks. I have a 98 year old grandmother who I would love to visit, but it's just too much of a risk. At that age you really hate not to visit, but you risk accidentally infecting them by catching it at some point on the way there.

"Wearing a mask isn't just about protecting other people, the CDC says. It can help you - and might prevent lockdowns":
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/11/12/covid-masks-protect-wearers/
This one we did know to some extent, but they should have made a bigger deal about it previously, before we hit almost 200,000 new cases per day.

I wish people would understand 6 feet is not enough distance too. Too many people act as if that is a safe distance. It's safer than being right next to them, but it's not "safe". I really wish people wouldn't visit family this Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's. I'm not. Some family members in other states are for Thanksgiving, and some are not. It's not just that I don't want my family to get it, but strangers as well. These poor doctors, nurses and other workers are going through hell right now and it's still going to get so much worse.
