Re: vaccinated

I'm glad you were able to get it. It seems like a lot of people should be able to get a first shot by the end of May. Perhaps everyone 16 and up that wants one will have the first shot by then. Hopefully it can happen that soon, but we'll see. Of course we will have to be wearing masks for awhile, or at least I will, until the number of new infections is low. I expect I will wear one into next year. Some people will not want to be vaccinated and people 15 and younger will not be vaccinated for awhile. For those vaccinated, they are much less likely to get sick from it, and it should be exceptionally rare to have serious complications if so. (sooner or later it is likely to happen, even if you do have the vaccine, especially if the virus mutates further) But I wouldn't want to get it and pass it on to someone that wasn't vaccinated. We might have a party for my grandmother's 99th birthday over the summer, but it would only be for people vaccinated, and not in a public place, and no kids could come. (and likely less than ten people too) We may not even then depending on how the virus is circulating at that point. We would really like to reduce the chance of her getting even slightly sick. (she did get her second shot which was great)

Alaska is vaccinating everyone 16 and up who want to get it and I think Florida is in a rush to open up eligibility as soon as possible. Florida will be at age 60 next week, then the governor wants to go to 55 and then open it up to everyone based on what he said. I wish they would do it more orderly, it's still somewhat chaotic, but it was getting better. I wish they would keep going down by 5 years of age. Getting appointments will likely be a nightmare again and for places where they don't require one, it will be a mess. Creating the mess they made for seniors was unacceptable, but younger people will be more able to deal with website issues I guess. But at least at that point it will be getting somewhat close to having the supply meeting demand.

I would like to wait until I can get it a drive-through location. My dad saw some people getting at the grocery store inside and it did seem like it was very orderly, so we'll see. I can continue to not be around people for another week or two when we get to that point to see if I could do it at a drive-through compared with going into a building to get it. I don't want to be one of the people who gets sick at the end of the pandemic when the vaccine is almost widely distributed. If people would do the right thing for a little longer, we could still save tens of thousands of lives.

Then we'll have to see how long these vaccines last. That's why I expect to be wearing a mask for awhile. I go out infrequently so it's not a big deal to continue to wear one. I have been out only once to a public place in the last year. (that was when I got my flu shot)
