I'm sorry to hear that too. Unfortunately we're learning more about how the immunocompromised were more at risk than others because the antibody response was not as much. I hadn't heard about that until recently. This virus can have such varied impacts, doing damage to various organs and having debilitating long term side effects.

My doctor wasn't wearing a mask when I went to see him in August. None of the staff in his office were. I was wearing a double mask, plus a filter in one of them, plus googles. I think that was likely my last visit to him. In the few times I have been out, most people wear a mask. Other than my doctor and while visiting some vaccinated family members in Tennessee during one week over the summer, I have been only been around masked people when very close to someone. When I got my flu shot at Publix they were masked. Me and my dad always have a double mask, with a little filter, and also goggles. While waiting for it, the store is big enough, and wasn't very crowded, where we just avoided people. Smaller stores would be more difficult to do that in. I was really nervous last year about getting a flu shot, as it was about the only time I was out that year, but I felt more comfortable this year about being able to avoid people and knowing how it will go. I was able to fill out most of the paperwork first, printing it out at home and then filling it in and bringing it. Try to go to a store at an off time. Make an appointment for a shot even if an appointment isn't required.
