Hybrid Immunity

Our neighbors had COVID-19 passed around their house, then eventually got a round of vaccine shots (Moderna I think). Back in mid-2020 they both had symptoms, he tested neg & she positive, but said it was like a weak cold, thought nothing of it & didn't get vaccinated, felt vindicated in their anti-vax beliefs. Early 2021, they both got it, very bad they said, but not hospitalized. Their adult son living there had it also. She said she was knocked flat from shots 1 & 2, like having COVID all over again. (I reminded her I had loved ones in ICU & dead from it, because they wouldn't get vaccinated.)

I came across this article in Nature on hybrid immunity: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02795-x Apparently if you had even a weak bout of COVID previous to getting a vaccine, there can be an extremely high antibody response to the vaccine. I think that's a good thing, but it sadly is making some people I know think the shot is worse than the virus :(

Very glad the Pfizer shots are available for children now, but it has likely been passed around schools, daycares, churches, etc... so some kids may also have a stronger reaction to getting the vaccine
