I should note that with the dehumidifier I said it could fill up in three to four hours, I don't think that is typical. The humidity in my house is extremely high, usually 60 to 64 percent. I use the dehumidifier for half an hour or an hour at a time when the humidity is at maybe 61 or 62% or higher. Then it might get to upper 50s briefly, before rising again. My house is designed with a lot of holes in the tracks in the sliding doors I have. It lets moist air in. I don't let the dehumidifier run more than an hour because it won't do as well after that. So I might turn it on in the morning and evenings, each for either a half hour or hour, depending on the humidity. And when really bad, use the second one which doesn't seem to work as good, or maybe just because it is less humid in that part of the house. (then I unplug it because I don't trust leaving that one plugged in all the time) I don't leave any of these on when I am gone.
Recently, like in the last few months, I also turn the air conditioner on briefly, if off, and let it run while the dehumidifier is running. A/C is probably more efficient, but then I don't want to get it too cold.
I mentioned the dehumidifier too because I know someone that had an issue with higher humidity causing mold issues. When we heard about that we decided we needed to do more. You don't want mold anywhere for a lot of reasons, but one of those is air quality. I wanted to make sure I didn't have any issues from mold I couldn't see that might be impacting what I considered to be allergies. I keep up the dehumidifiers so we don't get that issue. Humidity should be under 50% probably, but really needs to be no more than 60%. It's just not simple to do for me with how the doors were built. |
