When is the last time anywhere on the northern gulf coast, east of Fort Walton Beach Fl, struck directly by a major hurricane ?
I suspect that Michael, if he does begin to strengthen rapidly, will turn a bit NW and be more of a threat to the Alabama- western Fl Panhandle coast, than what is currently forecasted. The high pressure system currently over the Carolinas is producing a pronounced easterly flow over much of the SE US and that is not expected to change until maybe Friday. By then, Michael, I believe will have made landfall, likely near Pensacola, or between Mobile and Pensacola and then will turn NE; perhaps, make a sharp turn NE upon landfall. I am not expecting that NE turn to occur over the Gulf if Michael is a rapidly strengthening storm while in the southern -central Gulf of Mex, nor would I look for a sharp turn to the NE if Michael makes landfall as a major hurricane.
I always call these things wrong, so there ya go ! |
