Probationary employees across National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the @nws are being terminated today, including those in mission-essential roles. My own wife is among them, essential to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center's 24/7 critical mission of seismic monitoring and tsunami prediction to protect the public. Remember, most of the NWS is understaffed as it is. While there surely is waste to be found, this is not where to look. Indeed, this is not "looking." This is a blind swing of a sword.
He might be on Bluesky now. It's hard to tell what's official or not when someone doesn't register their domain as their handle and doesn't mention it on other social media that I see.
From looking on Bluesky at the people talking about being fired, some have worked there for a long time. It's not just recent hires, but people promoted as well that were in a probationary period.
A court might be trying to undo some of the firings across the federal government, but I'm not optimistic. I'd like to be surprised though.
