I don't know where this country is heading. I don't see how we can survive four years of this. What that means, I don't know. Yesterday's oval office meeting was likely a setup to try to destroy a democracy willing to stand up to a dictator. Ukraine was willing, reluctantly of course, to be blackmailed into handing over some of its natural resources, but Trump and Vance needed to try to destroy Ukraine instead. Trump later said how he didn't like how Zelenskyy was still criticizing Putin. Basically, that's like saying how dare he not be thankful to Putin for invading his country twice and killing tens of thousands of innocent people and kidnapping thousands of children. Then he kicked Zelenskyy out of the White House before he could sign the deal.
Yesterday was a historic day in the most terrible of ways. The world order was irrevocably changed since the time of WWII and America can't ever recover from that. A future administration can change things, but one thing can never change now. America is now officially on the side of evil. Hopefully that changes in four years, but we will have officially abandoned an ally in need and that happening once is something that will never be forgotten a thousand years from now. In the back of any allies mind forevermore, will be this betrayal.
We have literally witnessed the fall of America on the world stage as it officially embraces authoritarianism. And some of the Republicans, who very much used to hate Russia, are now in line with Trump. People don't realize it yet, but our country has fallen in a lot of ways. I did not expect it to happen so fast.
Someone shouldn't be irritated over being called out over a vote for Trump, they should be profusely apologizing for being so wrong and bringing all this on us all.
I still can't believe we are where we are. There is no being coyness here from Trump like when he didn't want to admit whether he was talking to Putin or not. He is openly embracing him.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes...
A person familiar with the matter who spoke to the Guardian on the condition of anonymity said analysts at the agency [Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa)] were verbally informed that they were not to follow or report on Russian threats, even though this had previously been a main focus for the agency.
The person said work that was being done on something "Russia-related" was in effect "nixed". From: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/28/trump-russia-hacking-cyber-security
