Hopefully you are doing well from the fires. Something for people to keep in mind that I had never thought about before is the potential dangers from smoke to the inside of homes. I had seen this report the other night:
https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/la-wildfire-victims-fight-insurers-over-toxic-ash-and-smoke-damage-233596997735
I've thought about being outside and the dangerous air, but not inside and especially not inside after the fires are long gone. And, insurance might turn out to be next to useless in some cases without a potential court fight. I thought I would post that for others that may live in areas that may experience wildfires.
They did fire some NOAA hurricane hunters: https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/03/noaa-hurricane-hunter-layoffs-threaten-to-degrade-hurricane-forecasts/
All these firings at NOAA will have an impact. Question is how much. Hurricane hunter flights, especially from NOAA, get data that goes into the models. Less flights, less data for the models. (such as tail doppler radar missions I think that I think goes into the GFS) But, who knows if we'll even have some of the models around any more. And good models help the NHC make better forecasts. So we're not likely to have a year where the forecasts were as good as last year. And it's all for no good reason at all. |
