My thoughts

I hope Jimw is right about setting up BP to take the final fall (to be caught in their own web of deceit), because if he's not right then it would mean gross incompetence from the US Govt in effecting the clean-up and in getting the information we need to put some sort of price tag on this. Now here's my very sad take on this....I agree with Jimw, that we're not likely to see any substantial contributions from the other oil companies in the clean-up. They have their lawyers and time on their side to force delays---and they would see this as a penalizing of the oil industry as a hole. Their already extremely suspicious of the Obama administration. No.2....The political ramifications (and economic) have already reared their ugly head---Look at the pressure the British govt is putting on Obama to lay off BP (most important source of wealth for the British welfare state...pensions etc... So BP can't possibly pay for this all by themselves and they won't have to.....So guess who gets stuck holding the bag????You're right.... the American taxpayer!!!The money will be needed in the short term anyway...next 12 months. If you know anything about the court system, there's no way that any legal procedures will be anywhere near completion by then. Sad as it may seem, with this country already trillions of dollars in debt (and growing), I don't see how the American taxpayer won't be called upon to foot a substantial portion of this bill....And what kind of political ramifications will that lead too?????
