You're right Jimw. We need to BEGIN now. The key as you say is transition. I think the logical thing is to go full force in the development of alternative technologies. But our present energy needs are incredible. For the immediate future, oil will continue to be the mainstay for supplying our energy needs. The transition will probably take at a minimum 20-25 years. This has to be done right. All of the world's economies are interconnected now. We see the huge debt problems in Europe and the effect on the capital markets over here. To do this transition in a wrong-headed or hasty way, could have enormous implications on the economy (and then the politics) of our world. Right now, we don't have a consensus among industry leaders or the public as a whole about what kinds of changes we want to make in both industry and lifestyle in America. Until we do, we are not really ready to proceed.
