A few brief notes James

James, Louisiana's economy does depend on the oil industry. Its no gimmick or political trick. The very thing that is killing our coast and fishing is also the lifeblood of our economy. And to immediately take that away (moratorium on drilling) actually does nothing more than compound our pain in La. I know, its pathetic isn't it, but true nonetheless. And James, at least La admits the awful truth. For America and for our future, there will be no more difficult feat than the transition of our's (and the world's energy base) from oil to other sources. Yes it can be done. But it has to be done carefully, without political sloganeering. The tragedy is that so far in America almost nothing has been done (industry lobbying and our addiction to our present lifestyle being the main culprits). If the transition is not well thought out, and done hastily, we will probably see extreme spikes in energy prices (on which our whole economy depends) which could push us even to the verge of economic collapse. This is very serious business. |
