What those people don't realize is that even if they let millions of older people die, the number of younger people sick, that would need to be in the hospital, and many also in ICU, would overwhelm the hospitals. So even if you let all the older people die you could have hundreds of thousands, maybe even into the millions, of younger people die. You would have tens of millions that need to be in the hospitals at one time. That can't happen. So anyone with any other condition would also be much more likely to die. We could be talking about many, many millions of Americans dead, of all ages.
And all we need to do is do what China did for a month. Several thousand dead in China compared to perhaps millions here. (though there could be multiple waves in China if they let it get out of control again) I know something approaching martial law would be hard for Americans to get used to, but we need the nation to go into lockdown at the same time. And people need to stop going out unless needed. I forget where, but someone ran a marathon in their apartment. If you can't exercise safely outdoors, find another way. Walking a pet is going to be challenging in dense urban areas. The states that needed to do the lockdown first did, but they will have to be under lockdown a lot longer while we wait for the virus to spread in the other states and they suddenly realize that it is serious and they have to lock things down.
Here in my county, Hillsborough, they decided not to lock things down because other counties were not doing it. People may work and live in different counties. I get it to some extent, but since the Florida governor isn't going to lead, the counties need to. One by one they should. Florida governor is telling people who arrive from New York to self quarantine for 14 days. They call it mandatory, but the people don't have to. And, they can still drive here and I assume go through some other city if flying.
People are still going to work here and as I sit here typing this, people are out boating and jet skiing still.
Meanwhile, the executive branch wants things open by Easter. I really hope that branch doesn't look at the market and think that's the reason the market is up today. If businesses think opening up is going to make everything better, they have lost their minds. Tens of millions of people seriously ill and a hundred million or more contagious would be a disaster for the economy, market and also potentially kill millions. All to try to make the market go up.
I do hope all this insanity in regards to sacrificing the elderly does make more governors, and if needed, county commissioners and mayors, to act. There is no risk of doing too much.
But as I type this local news reporting at 4pm that mayor of Tampa is getting ready to issues a stay at home order. I don't live in Tampa, I live a few thousand feet away. But everything near me is in Tampa. But I work from home on my website and my dad is retired, so it doesn't impact me directly, other than reducing the spread hopefully of course. |
