The President's White House appearances are dangerous

I wasn't going to mention it because I'm sure everyone here is aware that most everything being said by an elected or appointed federal official isn't true. Even Dr. Birx is sometimes not giving reliable information. We're left with Fauci, when he's made available. And even then it's best when he's not at the White House speaking with someone else next to him. (like at the CNN town hall tonight)

I only mention this because the misinformation influenced someone I know, my nearly 98 year old grandmother. She thought things were about to get back to normal based on what she heard from the White House. There was at least a day or two when the White House "briefing" replaced a lot of the local and national news. You heard Trump talking about how things were going to start opening back up in a week. So that's what my grandmother started thinking all of a sudden. She suddenly started being worried because her garbage, mail and weekly paper were sitting outside for a week because no one came over. She rather liked it that way because of the virus to be honest. She didn't want people coming over. But then she started getting worried about it. She wanted one of her kids to drive two hours to take the garbage in, as well as the mail and the paper. In reality, it's because she wanted the sales papers in the newspaper so she could see what she wanted someone to get on sale for the week. We had already told her that it's not going to work that way any longer. It's simply about what you can get at the store. I made that very clear when I was in Tennessee for a day a week and a half ago. So a family member went over there. Then she wanted that person to go to the store to get one thing that wasn't really important and she wasn't out of it and may not be that soon. She was upset because they wouldn't go, they wanted to go through the drive thru somewhere when they are out next. That family member tried to get her to understand again the seriousness of the situation and my dad found out today why it is that she suddenly had this change where she was starting to act normally again. She thought when that 15 days the White House is talking about ends that things were going to be okay. And she must have really thought this because part of the reason she can't be visited as much, which she seemed very fine with, is one of the family members that usually shops for her has a very sick person in the family who can't be exposed to this virus. (unfortunately it's not something that is going to get better anyway, but we don't want it to be worse faster)

If you know anyone in your family that might be susceptible to the misinformation like this, you may want to talk with them. I didn't think my grandmother would have fallen for it, but she did. She is practically deaf and reads the captions on TV, so it's easy to miss when the news counteracts the things that aren't true. When those media appearances replaced the local and national news on the broadcast networks, you may have millions of people believing that. Thankfully they have been showing a bit less of those and still now showing the national news on the broadcast networks.

They need to stop airing these things. It's already killed some people and it will kill a lot more. Only shows the parts with the doctor later. If someone else says something accurate, play that too. And if you want to cover all this things that are said that aren't true, do that when you can go point by point about everything that was said that is an extremely dangerous lie. This is not about politics, it's about life and death.
