Re: thanks Chris

My dad had a mask around, for painting or spraying the yard, something like that, and he has been using that to go grocery shopping. It covers his face and nose. Then for his eyes, he's wearing chemistry goggles that I had when I was in school 15 or 20 years ago. Whatever we can get to work. He won't let me go instead. He'll carefully remove the mask when he's done shopping and not use it again for while. He'll clean it to with chemicals. Takes all his clothes off when he gets home. Sets those shoes aside to not use for awhile. He takes a shower. Then cleans various things, like steering wheel, doorknobs, keys and credit card for example. If something was set on something temporarily, clean that surface too. We don't use the car for awhile then. He has hand sanitizer with him to use. Will have to see if he uses that before buckling his seat belt.

We leave nonperishable stuff in a room we don't go in for awhile. Other things we wash, like milk carton and packages of cheese. Even eggs we take out of carton and put them in a bin and don't use them for awhile. We could wash them. We've been freezing them later. We have a silicone muffin thing. Crack the egg into each one. Freeze them. Then take them out and put them in a bag in the freezer. I don't know how they taste if cooking eggs, but they might taste fine that way. I usually use them for other things. My sister had recommended I do that.

We've built up a supply of food. He can go out each week during the senior hours to avoid some people so we will continue to get more food so we don't run out. And order some online. Getting it through Walmart seemed like it was going to be a little more difficult since they don't list a lot of their items through their grocery section. I have some stuff ordered on Amazon and Walmart's non-grocery section. I ordered some things a week ago. One thing arrives Wednesday. Some things are still another month away. Originally one thing was going to be the end of May.

If you see some cans of soup, you can try to get them online. The 4 pack I bought is out of stock now:

Soup in general:

Much out of stock right now.

Amazon though sometimes lets you get it even if it's not in stock. Youur kind of in line. I don't mind if it takes a month.

12 pack of Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request Soup, Chicken Noodle, 18.6 Ounce:

$21.36

In stock on April 17, 2020.

It might be another month after that before you get it, who knows. It can be ordered now. Seems you can get up to 4 of those. Get $25 worth of stuff to get free shipping.

I like buying stuff like that only from Amazon, not through third parties or even from a third party that has it in their warehouse.

I really think they'll focus hard on keeping those supply lines moving. We might have to rely more on China for food for a bit. We'll see how things go.

I thought about trying to grow things in my yard. My grandparents, 20 to 25 years ago, had a giant garden. At least the size of a tennis court. Maybe closer to two. They had a basement at the time and canned things. They had everything. I've tried growing things and have had terrible luck. I was thinking about that a few weeks ago. The birds and squirrels get it all. One year I had dozens of pounds of cucumbers and made pickles. ( From that year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eYHhKNoK4A ) Tried that some other years and I got nothing. I must have watered things a whole lot more that year. Things like tomatoes and watermelons never made it. Used to have a grapefruit tree but citrus greening, I think it was, made the fruit terrible and we had to cut it down.

For two years things will be like a depression, though I'm hoping we won't have food shortages. Since we don't have a natural disaster impacting growing food, I'm hoping the other logistical aspects of getting it grown, processed and packaged and delivered to the store can be overcome. We just need so many more masks. People working on things like that need masks. That's going to be a critical weakness. If people don't have basic protections, they aren't going to want to work and I can't blame them.
