Re: our dog

Even if transmission from pets to humans were unlikely, the chance of passing it to a pet is something concerning to pet owners. We don't know how dangerous it could be to a pet. It's best to not let your pet socialize with other pets, or other people, outside of your home. And of course stay away from them when someone is sick.

I guess if someone goes out a lot still, for work for example, maybe you could keep the pet away from that person if possible, but that probably isn't too feasible. Hopefully it isn't too likely for pets to get it. You would think if it was really common, maybe we would have heard about it, but then again I don't know how you would get a pet tested.

I used to have a dog, Snowball, but after he passed in 2006, I still haven't yet. Losing a pet is hard. My neighbor calls her dogs her kids. She has grown humans kids too, but her dogs are definitely treated right.

Your dog is incredible to have gone through so much. It seems like you're doing great with the preparation of food and medicine for him. Keeping dog food long term can be hard. I think we used to have an issue with bugs. I can't remember what we did. Sometimes we had big bags and I don't know what container we must have had it in. We have a big freezer, maybe we put the dry food in it. Can't recall. Maybe we did that and put it in a sealed smaller container that we would use to pour it into his bowl. I know we also had an issue with bugs in bird food when I used to feed some wild birds and had to keep the food in sealed containers. Then I was buying like 30 to 40 pounds of bird food each week and it was time to quit.

Now might be a nice time to adopt a dog if you lived in a house. If you lived in an apartment building of some size, walking a dog might be something that would force you to be going into common areas which would put you more at risk. But for other pets that stay indoors, if you have the ability to pay for their care, would be nice company to have.
