Re: Today's White House briefing was a turning point

My dad can't listen to him any longer either. I do most of the time just to keep track of the craziness. I use headphones and listen on a tablet. There is really nothing useful that comes from him. Any actual facts and figures get lost in all the lies. He admitted today he does these so he can let the American people know how he is doing, because he thinks the media lies about him. They can just play all the things he has said and demonstrate all the things that aren't true. I wish they would play some of his words back while in front of him, but he talks over reporters so they can't hardly ask their questions sometimes anyway. He was really attacking today. He continues to pretend that things are great now, have been great and everyone is pretty much happy with what they are getting. Today's big thing was about how good testing is right now and brought a chart to show it. Meanwhile, mention any issues and you're going to get yelled at for not praising him first. That's how today kind of went. There's still too much coverage of him live. Doctors get a few minutes nearer to to the end, he gets a few hours and by the time the doctors are saying more, sometimes that gets little live coverage.

I wish more of his supporters would get how serious this is, but I'm looking at social media a lot and some of the things his supporters are saying continue to be dangerous. Some don't believe the death toll and think it's really a lot lower. They really go after the scientists. And some would prefer to just let people die because they think the economy would recover quickly if we opened things back up. They have no idea how disastrous that would be on every front, with millions dead, economy would really collapse and the stock market would hit levels not seen in a long time. Additionally, the psychological toll would be incalculable.

At times he kind of gets how bad things are right now, though he also thinks he's done a good job if only 100,000 to 200,000 people die. If it isn't in the millions, he's going to spin it as a win, which is disgusting.

I'm just hoping this month will maybe show some areas near their peak, but I really don't think some areas will peak for months and even if they do in that time, it's going to be more of a plateau. Plus, this is going to be very long term unfortunately. I don't think we'll be able to do enough to open things back up where contact tracing and quarantining the people who are sick, and those they come into contact with, will be something that works well enough. And I just don't know what that's going to mean and how he will react to that. We'll have to see what the numbers look like if we are testing a lot more people by then.
