Re: Texas is 2nd worst in nation for covid-19 testing

I honestly don't know how this country is going to open things back up. We are not going to be able to test. Even the tests that we get might not be very reliable when it comes to the antibody tests. The antibody tests we get will need to be more for healthcare workers and other essential workers first anyway. And we don't truly know how long someone might have some kind of immunity. Not even if there is for sure.

I think everyone is way too optimistic on opening things anytime soon. Even the person modeling this was talking tonight (I think it was the person at IHME) about how if we social distance through the end of May, we may no longer see deaths by the end of June. Other experts disagreed. I don't think we are ever getting to that point until there is a vaccine that most people have. And even then it will be a bit, depending on how the vaccine works and how many people decide to get it.

I guess the only true measure of this is hospitalizations. Even the death toll is undercounted. I look at the number of cases still growing a lot, but at this point it's not a really valid measure of anything any longer in terms of overall numbers. I was looking at some of the things some people have to go through to try to get a test, and then get results, in some places and it just isn't worth it in a lot of cases. If you are not seriously sick, it may not matter much to get the test. If you really think you have it, assume you do. And if you need medical attention, tell them you think you have it.

Some states continue to refuse to do what they need to. South Dakota for example. That Smithfield plant where over half the entire state of South Dakota's coronavirus cases can be found. Really? No, they just aren't testing enough obviously. It's out there a heck of a lot more than they think and increasing exponentially because their governor won't tell people to stay home. And if everyone else opens back up, what happens with these states with exponential growth still? Do we close the border and ground air traffic to them? There is no plan. I know some governors in the east and west are getting together to come up with plans on how a possible reopening may eventually happen, but I'm not very optimistic.

I'm still not going anywhere until a vaccine. Even if additional public spaces open at various points, like restaurants, I'm staying home. I don't think we'll ever get to a point until then where the risk is low enough that it is worth the risk.
