Early on there was a report about whether a dog might have possibly got it. That was unclear. It might have been that the dog licked something and then had it in his mouth when they swabbed. Even if the dog didn't suffer from it, it could have had it in its mouth. That could be an issue. Maybe pretty unlikely, but it may not be a good idea to let the dog lick your face. Or have it lick your hand and then you touch your face. Whatever kind of pet we're talking about would have to come in direct contact with the virus, by licking it in this example. That would probably be extremely unlikely.

I have a neighbor who has two dogs that I have walked a lot and have played with a lot. I've known them since they were just born, over 13 years ago. Of course I can't see them right now. I can't see my neighbor in person and it's not a good idea to pet the dogs either. You have to assume every person that has it. And if I touch the dogs, or breathe around them, or touch their leash for example, it's an unnecessary risk.
